Our Commitment to You + Why We're Dropping Prices
Dropping Prices? In This Economy?
We’ve always been committed to being a “socially reasonable” company and that means we understand the financial stress that can come along with simply existing. And while we could throw around a bunch of ~economy~ buzzwords that sound like the teacher from Charlie Brown to explain, the short of it is that we do know it is increasingly difficult for some of you to afford the things you need, let alone the things you love.
This move isn’t just about business; it’s about showing solidarity with our consumers and taking a stand against the economic pressures that are making life harder for middle-class Americans.
Understanding The Why.
Before breaking down the why behind this decision, it’s crucial to understand the environment we’re operating in. Corporate greed has led many companies to prioritize profit over people, often resulting in price increases on everything from the essentials, like toilet paper, to the fun stuff, like music festivals. This approach leaves some consumers, particularly those not in the 1%, struggling to stay above water.
Inflation turns a small fire into a dumpster fire. Prices continue to rise, making it increasingly difficult for some of us to stretch our hard earned monies. Whether it’s groceries, housing, or healthcare, the cost of living is steadily rising. As a result, the purchasing power of the average American is diminishing, leading to financial stress and insecurity.
Customers first. Profits second.
We've always believed that our customers are the heart of our business. It has never been about just selling bags. It’s been about questioning constructs and creating a community. A Dime Bag is a calling card to let people know that they’re free to be whoever they want to be. It’s like a family that doesn’t judge you for your questionable life choice unlike your biological family.
As the weight of the world feels increasingly heavy for some of you, we knew that we couldn’t increase prices like a good portion of other businesses. It’s just not on brand for us, ya know? What is on brand for us is recognizing that some of you may be struggling and, because you are part of this weird little family, lowering prices seemed like the right thing to do.
Why Lowering Prices Matters
Lowering our prices is our way of linking arms with you and saying “We’re in this together”. There is more to it though so here is why we think this is the move to make:
- Easing Financial Burden: We understand that every dollar counts. Hell, every quarter counts before payday. More green for you means less green for us and that’s okay. Protecting what gives you joy is a form of self-care.
- Building Trust: We want you to trust us. It’s the foundation of any lasting relationship and we’re in this for the long haul. We want you to know that we see you and hear you- we’re committed to your well-being, not just our bottom line. When our prices get lower, you can get higher.
- Setting an Example: It’s not very often we’ve been a good example per our mother but we hope our decision will inspire other companies to consider their ethics and social responsibility. We can’t be perfect but we can be reasonable as a business. We believe it’s possible to run a successful business without exploiting consumers.
- Creating a Sense of Community: Our customers are more than just consumers; they’re part of our weird little family. We want you to feel supported and valued- because you are. Because one of our love languages is acts of service, we hope lowering our prices makes you feel all warm and tingly inside.
Continuing Our Commitment.
Our decision to lower prices is part of a broader commitment to our pledge to be “socially reasonable”. We believe that companies have a responsibility to contribute positively to society, and this means more than just offering quality products. It means continually striving to reduce our carbon footprint, supporting causes that are important to us, and really listening and understanding that landscape that some of us are navigating.
Sustainable Practices
With the introduction of our Dime Bags Naturals line, we are reducing our impact on the environment and creating a more sustainable product. What can we say- we love our Mother (Earth) and want to protect her.
Transparent Communication
We’ve got nothing to hide. You could go through our phone and find no secret “friends”. We believe in openly communicating with you about our business practices and decisions that impact you.
In these bizarre times, it’s more important than ever for companies to show their customers and community the impact of lowering prices instead of raising them. At Dime Bags, we’re proud to lower our prices as a show of solidarity and a stand against corporate greed and inflation. We just think it is the right thing to do. For the last 17 years, you’ve supported us. The least we can do is support you.
