Description

Wolves have long been feared in the United States and have been the subject of eradication efforts since the early 1800's. According to PBS, "by the middle of the 20th Century, government-sponsored extermination had wiped out nearly all gray wolves in the Lower 48 states. Only a small population remained in northeastern Minnesota and Michigan. Yet the Bureau of Biological Survey was still disseminating anti-wolf propaganda as late as 1940."

By the mid-70's wolf populations had declined so drastically that the government pivoted from sanctioning extermination to placing the gray wold on the endangered species list. Don't worry- the irony isn't lost on us either. As a result of the conservation efforts, wolf populations have rebounded but the need for dedicated sanctuaries and reserves persists.

Sanctuaries like the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center are critical to educating future generations of wolves and their important role in the eco-system. Dedicated to education, conservation and preservation, the organization not only teaches about wolves, coyotes and foxes. Since they are certified by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), they are able to further conservation efforts by participating in the Species Survival Program by providing a home to Mexican Grey Wolves and Swift Foxes.

100% of sales of this patch will be donated to the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center.
