How Does Carbon Filter Technology Work?

The Science Behind Your Smell Proof Bags

Earlier this year we unveiled a new line of completely smell-proof bags. This revolutionary line of bags, known as the Omerta collection, took off. With smell-proof luggage ranging from 5-inch pouches to full-sized duffle bags and backpacks, it’s no surprise consumers looking for a discreet solution to their transportation needs flocked to the new Dime Bags collection. Thanks to activated carbon filters, our Omerta bags are 100% smell-proof.

Smell-proof bags have a variety of uses. Whether you’re self-conscious about your gym clothes or transport 10 lbs. of fish every day – we aren’t here to judge. All Omerta products are made for secrecy. Our pouches, backpacks, and duffles come with lockable zippers and are 100% smell-proof. What makes the Omerta collection so unique is the carbon-filter technology. It’s what locks the smell in – and keeps the curiosity out.

How Does Carbon-Filter Technology Work?

Carbon-filter technology, also known as activated carbon filters, works by trapping the scent within the carbon molecules. Each Omerta bag, pouch, and backpack is lined with activated carbon. This lining works by “grabbing” any floating molecules from your bag’s items and absorbing the scent it gives off. Activated carbon, also known as activated charcoal or activated coal, is processed in a way that creates an extremely porous surface, thus giving the carbon lining more surface area to capture the scent. One pound (454g) of activated charcoal contains a surface area of approximately 100 acres. That doesn’t give the scent of whatever’s in your bag much room to hide. Because chemical absorption takes place, the bag will not let out any of the smell, and won’t smell when you remove your items, either.

While we’d like to take claim of this smell-proof technology, we have to give credit where it’s due. We have to hand it to ya’ Mother Nature; this is some kick-ass technology. Carbon filtration has been around for decades. It is used in respirator masks, cigarette filters, and even used as a method to remove ozone, a key component of smog.

How to Use Your Omerta Pouch, Duffle, or Backpack

The best part about carbon filtration? It’s completely hands-free. Your smell-proof bag is ready to go upon arrival. Though activated charcoal has a ton of surface area, over time, it will fill up. If you find the carbon lining is losing its effectiveness, simply throw it in the dryer for 10-15 minutes to reactivate the charcoal, and it’s good as new. Carbon-filter technology is one of the easiest and most effective ways to discreetly transport your goods. There are no gimmicks here – just science doing its job.
