Cannabis Legends: Snoop Dogg
He’s created a 4/20 Wellness Retreat. He’s known for songs like “Smokin’ On” lyrics like “smoke weed everyday.” He’s admitted to smoking 81 blunts a day. The one, the only, Snoop Dogg has truly earned his title as a cannabis legend.
Snoop Dogg’s career officially kicked off around 1992, back when he was still known as Snoop Doggy Dogg. Since the beginning, one of Snoop’s iconic appeals has been his love for weed. He’s actually had his medical license in the state of California for over a decade now to treat migraines.
Snoop is an entrepreneur at heart (after all, he was an actual professional pimp in the early 2000s!). In 2015, he launched a digital media venture that shares news on all things cannabis, and called it Merry Jane. One month after, he announced a new brand of cannabis products – Leafs by Snoop. LBS, according to Snoop, “is truly the first mainstream cannabis brand in the world.” It carries flowers, concentrates, and edibles, and it’s based in Colorado – like us!
Now that weed is legal in Canada, though, Snoop has been making moves into the Canadian cannabis market. Leafs by Snoop offers three Canadian varieties – Sunset, Ocean View, and Palm Tree CBD. There’s also been word about Snoop investing $2 million into a Toronto-based cannabis software provider offering management tools for the cannabis industry.
For the past few years, Snoop Dogg has been performing with some other cannabis legends, such as Wiz Khalifa and Migos, in an annual 420 Wellness Retreat. According to Merry Jane, the Wellness Retreat (which takes place on – bingo! – 4/20) is the largest 4/20 celebration in the world. Merry Jane actually just announced the lineup for this year, and it’s gonna be bigger than ever. Snoop will be joined by iconic weed enthusiasts, including Ice Cube, Warren G, E40, and more. The 6th annual 420 Wellness Retreat will also feature artwork designed by Sara Haase – a medical user who thanks cannabis for her ability to live a normal life with Crohn’s disease.
According to Snoop Dogg, weed is essential to overall wellness. Cannabis keeps smokers feeling uplifted and creative, which is especially important to an artist like Snoop. “Weed relaxes you and opens your mind,” says Snoop. “It can also make you laugh, which is a great form of medicine.” The annual Wellness Retreat has been growing year over year, and the show keeps moving to larger and larger arenas. All Snoop’s really trying to do is celebrate his favorite day with his fans and turn 4/20 into a global holiday.
One thing we love most about Snoop is that he’s never been shy about his love for weed. In fact, a few months back during the midterm elections, he posted on his Instagram several videos of himself smoking blunts in front of the White House and all over Washington, D.C. His videos got hundreds of thousands of likes – Uncle Snoop fans are so on board with the fact that he doesn’t give a f***.
Whether he goes by Snoop Doggy Dogg, Snoop Dogg, or Snoop Lion (remember that time he made that reggae album in Jamaica, Reincarnated?), one thing’s for sure – Snoop is an OG cannabis legend who eats, sleeps, and breathes cannabis culture. He’s got cameos in everything from Trailer Park Boys to The Simpsons, and starred in a film, Mac & Devin Go to High School, with yet another cannabis legend, Wiz Khalifa. So for all you stoners feeling like you’re getting a bad rep out there, no worries – turns out a nice wake and bake every morning might just be the key to success.
