It happens to the best of us – we smoke more than we mean to and get too high. We start to feel paranoid, nervous, and maybe even a little nauseous. We feel like EVERYONE is looking at us (and know we’re stoned). But have no fear – Dime Bags is here to help you get through this (and we promise, nobody is looking at you).

Stay Calm

Easier said than done, but try not to panic! There have been a whopping ZERO reported deaths from a cannabis overdose in the history of forever. It would actually take 1,500 pounds of weed consumed in 15 minutes or less to overdose. Challenge accepted? Don’t bother trying – we promise you it’s impossible.

This Too Shall Pass

Keep in mind that your symptoms and your high won’t last more than a few hours. Try drinking ice cold water and focusing on the simple act of sipping and swallowing – mix in some sugar, which can help counteract the effects of THC.

Raid Your Kitchen

Some surprising ingredients to mellow your high:

  • Sniff or chew black pepper – this combats paranoia and anxiety as the pepper’s chemical properties bind to the same receptors in the brain as THC, creating a calming effect as you come back down to reality.
  • Drink fresh lemon juice – the terpenes in the juice work the same way as black pepper in the way they react with THC. It tweaks the chemical reaction that got you too high in the first place.

If you’re high off an edible, eating more food and filling your stomach will help to dilute the THC in your system and can mellow your high.

what to do when you smoked too much

Distract Yourself

Sometimes the best thing to do is just wait it out! Lay down at take a nap so you wake up refreshed (and no longer stoned). Go for a walk in nature to get some fresh air – try only going to quiet, secluded places where there are not a lot of people to avoid further paranoia. Any sort of exercise will get your metabolism going, which will speed up the rate that THC exits your body.

Take a shower or a bath – the warm water will help to relax you and bring you back down to earth. Watch TV or a movie – a classic brainless (yet wonderful) stoner movie like Cheech and Chong or Mac and Devin Go to High School might be just what you need.

Phone a friend – a familiar and comforting voice will help keep you grounded. Call someone who is familiar with smoking so they’re familiar with what you’re going through and can ease your worries. Overall, it’s best to know your limits with weed and to take it slow. If you’re new to smoking, give the effects time to settle in and be sure to smoke in a comfortable space with experienced smokers if possible. They’ll be able to talk you through your intense high and can reassure you that you will be okay.
